I'm sorry, I'm not sure what the common courtesy is for something like this.

I'm considering making a TV movie based on the events of 1/14.

Has it been long enough?
Can we step back now and look with unflinching eyes?

(Oh yeah. And I like totally want credit for doing nothing.)

Never forget. Jan. 17th, 2005 @ 09:37 pm

I remember the day that LJ went down for 2 days like it was yesterday. I was going to check the Sarasota community to see if any shows were happening that night. It just said page could not be shown so I figured my internet was messed up. I went out for a few hours and came back, prepared to chronicle the adventures of my night in my trusty LJ. To my horror, I typed in the fabled address.. www.livejournal.com. What showed on my computer screen was not what I was expecting, at all... I will never forget that message. "Our internap servers have went down, we will be working on getting our 100+ servers up all weekend if we need to" All weekend?!?! No, this is terrible. I contemplated suicide for a full 30 some hours while sitting in front of my computer pressing refresh every 5 minutes. I will never forget the day that LJ went down. Nor will I forget the void that was my soul for the two days which it was down.

It is my understanding that LiveJournal was not functional for 2 days. During those days I was working, masturbating, working on a website of my own, and watching a DVD of the 2004 Tour De France. I didn't actually know LJ had been down until Monday the 17th when I saw posts about it on my friends page. I'm thankful that this tragedy did not effect me more directly. It surely would have stricken me with much pain, fear, and anger, among other things. My deepest sympathies to those who had to endure this difficult time of sorrow and uncertainty.

and just the day before I had commented to my boss about thank god it was not friday the 13th.

who knew friday the 14th would contain more horrors than any 13th could?

at first, I thought it was my computer.

then, I thought it must be my firewall at work, and that everything would be okay when I got home.

I was wrong.

Oh my god, I cannot go on. I need some time to compose myself.

I know where I was. It was a calm afternoon. We couldn't have known.

Sitting at the computer, talking to friends. Checking my mail. I wonder if any of my LJ friends posted....oh no. What's wrong with my browser? Why won't it show Livejournal? It can't be a cache problem, I don't even have a cache anymore! What's going on? NO!
